I would have to question the sanity of both teams’ GMs if that were true. If that’s all Joe Sakic could get for P.A., then he would need his mental stability questioned. Bourque is one of the NHL’s bigger bust players of the last few years, the classic case of a guy who got a big contract and just quit playing. And if Bergevin actually had the chance to get Parenteau for only Bourque and turned it down? Then he would have to be committed to an institution too. But the rumor was untrue.
Maybe the teams have talked of late – I asked principals involved and they wouldn’t comment – but I don’t think Montreal actually made an offer with a straight face of Rene Bourque for Parenteau. I mean, Sakic and Roy ain’t that dumb.
